Australian King Parrot. A large distinctive, broad-tailed parrot with striking sexual dimorphism. The male has plain scarlet head and body, the female is predominantly green with scarlet belly and under tail coverts. Its flight is strong but erratic with its long heavy tail prominent. With a metallic “chack chack” voice it lives in forests and woodlands of most sorts, especially if damp, and surrounding plantations, farmlands and domestic gardens. Food consists of fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, particularly those of eucalyptus.
