State Library of New South Wales. Photographed by Maureen Short not long after sunrise in 1961-62. Opened in 1910, the Mitchell Library houses unsurpassed collections of Australiana bequeathed to the people of New South Wales by David Scott Mitchell. It holds Australia's greatest documentary record of cultural heritage & the original records of Abel Tasman, Captain James Cook and Captain Matthew Flinders. The Library's unrivalled collections provide a fascinating insight into the first encounters with the original inhabitants.
